Zoë in Wonderland
What happens when you combine a topiary T. Rex, racks of gorgeous dresses and a lady so pretty in person that it almost hurts to look? Magic. Zoë Saldana models the best of fall fashion and, later, tells all her secrets.
By Adrienne Samuels Gibbs. Photographs by Daniela Federici.
Saldana claims Queens, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic as her roots and her sangre. Yet she won’t linger on the matter of her heritage. She’d prefer to simply discuss Zoë, the actress, the one to be feared because she will get that role. And that’s why she who rocked the world in Avatar will soon kick major ass—as a human this time—in this month’s killer revenge-action flick, Colombiana. She portrays Cateleya Restrepo, an assassin who, as a schoolgirl, saw her parents murdered by a cartel. Consequently, the girl grows up with a couple of guns and one hell of a chip on her shoulder. Saldana loves Cateleya because of the character’s vulnerability, anger, athleticism and fear. She also embraces the idea that this leading role destroys yet another barrier of so-called rules in Black Hollywood, which is why she will not and cannot complain about color, race and roles.“When I go after a part, [people] better watch their backs,” she says. “Not because I’m going to crush everybody, but because I’m going to give the best that I can because I strive for excellence. When you don’t get a part, it is for a reason, and these pieces will fall into place soon. … We have a Black president right now, so why the f— would I sit down and talk about how hard it is for Black women in Hollywood when there’s a Black president in my country?”
Strong words from the tall beauty full of grace (she’s also a classically trained ballet dancer) who just hours earlier pranced about a lush green garden in a ruffled Oscar de la Renta gown for her cover shoot. Given her penchant for playing the female aggressor, such talk is not completely unexpected. Saldana is confident but not arrogant. She enjoys the trappings of success while also lamenting the loss of anonymity that interrupts Tia Zoë and a much-loved niece during a trip to Madame Toussauds Wax Museum. But again, she’s not complaining because that’s not her nature. She’ll find a way to make Toussauds happen by taking charge. And when she does, watch out.

Stunning Afro-Latina actress Zoe Saldana graces the September 2011 cover of Latina magazine’s fall style issue, which hits newsstands on August 16th.
The 33-year-old Dominican & Puerto Rican star of this month’s Colombiana opens up to Latina about how she nearly had an emotional collapse after catapulting to superstardom with Avatar, the highest-grossing movie of all time, and what helped her stay grounded.
On dealing with her newfound fame: “The year after Avatar was just emotionally overwhelming. I was traveling all over the world, waking up in different time zones. Your body gets exhausted, and by the end of the year I just collapsed.”
On coming close to a total breakdown: “I was in Paris training for Colombiana, sitting in my hotel room, and I couldn’t stop crying. I couldn’t stay awake. I must have slept for an entire month. It took me the rest of the year, even as I was working and shooting Colombiana, to pick myself up. Thank God my family was there.”
On the post-Avatar effect: “I just want the best filmmakers in the world to tell me, ‘You’re good, kid, you’re legit.’ The recognition will never get old, and I’ll never get accustomed to it. I don’t ever want to, because that will mean I’m taking it for granted. That’s why I work, not for the luxuries or the awards.”
On the simple joys of life: “I just stay at home and do absolutely nothing. When I was younger, that would have made me feel like such a failure. Now that I’m older, I know what it means to shut down. I don’t shower if I don’t want to. I don’t answer e-mails. It’s a healthy way of being selfish. You know you’re old when gardening, the Food Network and voice notes from your nieces and nephews blow your mind.”

Here is the article from Women’s Health:
Zoe Saldana’s Star Turn
Her career may be about to blast into the stratosphere, but trust us on this: Star Trek’s sexiest new crew member is totally down to earth. We got her to chat about Johnny Depp, turning the big 3-0, and her best style secrets. (Ever consider stealing your guy’s underwear?)Balancing Act
With her career going full blast, it may be hard to believe she has much time for exercise, but Zoë has found a way to fit it in, with a workout schedule that includes Pilates three times a week (“It’s the closest thing to dance,” she says). But that’s not to say she loves every second of it. “I get bored really easily. If I didn’t have a trainer to push me, I’d go walk for about 15 minutes,” she says, groaning. “But I love feeling in tune with my body and eating right.” Her one rule: no deprivation or crash diets. “Sometimes I pig out on pasta, but that’s OK,” she says, staring lovingly at the lobster ravioli on her plate. “The next day, I just eat healthy.”That practical attitude extends to aging too. Zoë embraced the big 3-0 by throwing herself a massive dinner party at her home, which she shares with her longtime boyfriend, actor Keith Britton, and their loveable pit bull-pointer mutt, Calvin—full name Calvin Allen Britton (“just so beautiful, but trust me, he has no class,” she says). Ask Zoë about stepping into her third decade and she says, “I’m very accepting with my age. It’s like notches on your belt: experience, wisdom, and a different kind of beauty. There comes a day when you’ve become comfortable in your skin. But God as my witness, I am going to try to do everything I can to keep this ass together for as long as I possibly can—without going against nature.”
On The Move
With her lifestyle, that shouldn’t be too hard. This is a woman who relishes a fast pace. “I have a hyper personality ,” Zoë says. “I don’t draw myself a bath with candles—I don’t get it. [I feel the same way about] camping: You pack for five frickin’ hours to go to the woods and sit by a fire? We could do that in my backyard!” Still, she admits, “I’m learning the power of going away for the weekend and keeping myself company. Sometimes, I’ll drive to the airport, and four hours later I’m in Mexico. [I relax] for two days, then call everybody to say, ‘Yo, this is amazing! Please come!’”Her ideal Sunday afternoon: hitting a movie theater for three films in a row. Friday night might be dinner with friends and a few bottles of wine. “I wouldn’t want to change anything in my life,” she says. “Am I happy? Happiness is nothing but temporary moments here and there—and I love those. But I would be bored out of my mind if I were happy all the time.”

Also at Women’s Mag Zoe list her favorite flicks…
Sci-fi film
“I’m a Star Wars fan, but I love the whole Alien legacy. My favorite was the second one, because of Ripley [Sigourney Weaver]. She was such a feisty creature—strong and still very motherly.”Romantic comedy
“I would have to say Nuovo Cinema Paradiso. There’s this romance between a boy and a girl and a friendship between a man and an old man. It’s all just so beautiful—you cry and laugh. You have to watch it, trust me.”Buddy movie
“I love St. Elmo’s Fire. [The characters] have this friendship, and you can relate to all of them—from Emilio Estevez to Ally Sheedy. In every scene, you are one or the other.”See the full list and thier videos: HERE

Here is the article on the web…
THE COLOMBIANA STAR’S ATYPICAL ASCENT TO CINEMATIC NOTORIETY
If you’re a journalist, the woman with the ironwood eyes will blow in from the street and sit, and she’ll talk to you about all the movies she’s in, especially the new one, and she’ll be enchanting and brilliant like a movie star should be. Yet, in another scenario, if you’re Joe on the street, and she walks by you, you still might not put it together. You might double take and wonder where you’d seen her before. Here’s a hint: she’s the star of the highest grossing movie of all-time. Still don’t have it? On the internet, you can find Halloween costumes in effigy of her roles. C’mon, Joe. “Remember, Avatar wasn’t even something that people knew about,” she’ll say, and you’ll finally click.
It’s a temperate Friday, so drinks are quaffed in the courtyard; it feels breezy like a Friday spent ditching school. “You know what,” she’ll say to the waiter, “I’ll have a champagne.” A true blue movie star is usually booked end-to-end, months at a time, so she’s made the rendezvous point Palihouse, a haven of a brasserie in West Hollywood, snug between her engagements. Readings, fittings, storyboards? She rolls the stem of the champagne glass between her slender fingers and stares hard like an actress searching for her next cue, and shrugs. “Dentist appointment,” she says. Good news? “Yes, no cavities.” She sighs relief and smiles. I swear to god it hurts my eyes.
Of course, if, in yet another scenario, you’re a Trekkie, you definitely know who this alert young woman across the table, Zoë Saldana, is. She played Nyota Uhura, in 2009’s Star Trek reboot. And as any good nerd would, you know that Nichelle Nichols’ original series Uhura was one of the first black non-“Mammy” characters on television and that in 1968, Nichols shared the first interracial kiss on TV. Those must have been some big shoes to fill. “J.J. Abrams gave us this freedom,” she says, “because it was a parallel universe. The only thing for us to rip from the pressure of having to follow in those footsteps is by making the prequel, of what they were before they got on The Enterprise. They were young people, they were kids—they didn’t even know who the fuck they were.”
But, if you’re a journalist, or if you’re Joe, maybe you didn’t see Star Trek. Maybe you still don’t know who the fuck she is. Or maybe—especially if you were a fin de siècle 14-year-old girl—you saw Saldana in the dance movie Center Stage, her first real part, the one that her ballet training as a child in the Dominican Republic earned her. Or perhaps you caught a glimpse of her in the succession of roles that came after that: Britney Spears’ bitchy friend in Crossroads (2002), one of Jack Sparrow’s former lovers in Pirates of the Caribbean (2003), Tom Hanks’ customs agent friend in The Terminal (2004), Ashton Kutcher’s girlfriend in the racial comedy Guess Who (2005), and a slew of Black audience films. But you still might not have learnt who she was. Then came Star Trek…
…which means nothing if you actually are Joe. Neither Joe, nor journalist, nor most of you really knew who Zoë Saldana was until her role as the Na’vi warrior Neytiri in Avatar, a film in which you don’t even really see Saldana, the woman, but you see her motion-captured alien embodiment, her digitally rendered blue skin. That film, released in December of 2009, grossed nearly three billion dollars, when all is said and done. A lot of people went to see Avatar.
“I never thought about tomorrow,” Saldana says about looking into the abyss of going from small potatoes to jumbo production. “I never thought about what this movie was going to be, or what I wanted it to be. I was so enthralled in today, and becoming this character and dehumanizing myself and animal behavior and studying even children. I was studying wolves, and the feline kingdom. Jim [Cameron] told me, ‘The [Na’vi] are innocent. They don’t know what the word “lie” means. They don’t know how to lie.’ Part of growing up is losing innocence.” Watching Saldana talk about her work, spitting words at a cutthroat rate, pausing only to sip at bubbly, you feel her intensity. She has that actorly locked in look, and you can see her inability to disengage from her roles. Saldana is the type that, while prepping for Avatar, would inhabit Neytiri during dinner at home, hissing at unwanted passed peas.Read More at Flaunt: HERE

For a while now I have been posting articles that have been posting snippets of Zoe’s interview with Empire Magazine. Now I finally found some details. It looks like Zoe will be featured in their September 2011 edition. Here is what was pulled from their site.

Out For Blood: Columbiana, Conan, Drive
Splashing down this month is a rhesus-packed trio of seriously no-nonsense characters who’ll lop your head off/fill you full of lead/bust a cap in your ass [deleted as appropriate] as soon as look at you. Cataleya (Zoe Saldana), Conan (Jason Momoa) and Driver (Ryan Gosling) are our fearsome threesome and will light up Colombiana, Conan The Barbarian and Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive respectively. Empire spoke to all three to find out just how savage how things are going to get – and get some handy Barbarian tips for getting all ripped and powerful. Clue: it’s bad news if you’re a chicken.
